Urethane is the “glue” or adhesive that can either go directly on the vehicle and the windshield is then placed on the urethane or the urethane can be applied to the windshield and then installed on the vehicle. As for the Urethane, the prices for them can very from $3 a tube/sausage to upwards of $20 per tube/sausage. The difference between these prices is mainly based on quality, and the quality is measured on the safe-drive-away-time (SDAT). Some Urethane brands offer a SDAT as low as 30 minutes and others can be several hours. SDAT is the amount of time your car is not allowed to be driven before it is safe to drive without the windshield coming off in the event of a collision. So be sure to ask your auto glass technician what quality SDAT the Urethane they are applying is.
